Next Meeting – May 13, 2019 – 7:30 pm

CHHA-Calgary is pleased to welcome Dr. Carrie Scarff, Calgary audiologist, who will present on Hearing Health at our upcoming member meeting on May 13.

Dr Scarff, noted audiologist, is involved in educating and informing health professionals and agencies about hearing loss issues, new research and treatments in hearing loss. She takes a particular interest in the effects of hearing loss on the brain and advancements in research in this area.

Dr. Scarff is a leading lecturer to health professionals and the general public. In her lectures, she covers the common causes of hearing loss, new technology and assistive devices, how to effectively communicate with those who have hearing loss, as well as tips and techniques to help keep their brain healthy for maximum hearing throughout the lifespan.

This is a presentation not to be missed, and CHHA-Calgary is thrilled that she is presenting to our members.

Cochlear Implant ‘Coffee Chat’ Support Group

This is a very active group that meets monthly. Led by Sonja Reid, a CI user herself, attendees participate in lively discussion on all matters related to hearing loss and in particular, cochlear implants. There is a wealth of information shared by all participants.

Anyone is welcome to attend regardless of your hearing status. Individuals considering a cochlear implant and especially new users attend to receive support and information. Seasoned users attend for camaraderie and information sharing.

It is a very casual and welcoming atmosphere with refreshments served in a fully accessible location with free parking. Meetings occur on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. Meetings are held in the basement meeting area of the Deaf and Hear Alberta building at 63 Cornell Rd. NW.
