About CHHA

CHHA-Calgary is the Calgary Branch of the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association (CHHA). CHHA, formed in 1982, is a non-profit, self-help consumer organization, which is the national voice of all Canadians who are hard of hearing. Like its parent organization, CHHA-Calgary is formed by, and for, Calgarians who are hard of hearing, to promote self-help and public awareness of hearing loss. Feel free to also visit CHHA National for more information.

"CHHA-Calgary wants to be a strong voice for people who are hard of hearing in and around Calgary."

Mission

CHHA-Calgary promotes self-help, advocacy, information and visibility for Calgarians with hearing loss.

Meetings

At scheduled meetings, workshops and social functions, we share information to help make daily life easier for people who are hard of hearing.

Guest speakers present subjects of interest to people who are hard of hearing, their families, friends and hearing members of the public.

We meet the second Monday of the month at 7:30 pm (unless otherwise posted), with the exception of January, June, July, August and December. We host two socials every year, a BBQ in the summer and a Christmas Party in December. Meetings are held at:

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Society
63 Cornell Road NW
Calgary, AB T2L 0L4

(Northwest corner of Northmount Drive and 14th Street.) - Click here for a map & directions

Real time captioning screenAll CHHA-Calgary meetings are 100% wheel-chair and hearing accessible with Real Time Captioning and Assistive Listening Devices. A captioner, using a computer and an overhead projector, is able to type what the speaker is saying and have it projected onto a screen. This means that as people speak, their words are visible. Assistive listening devices are provided if you wish to have the speaker's voice amplified.

Our Executive consists of volunteer members that fill the positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and 1 (or 2) Member(s)-at-Large. The commitment is usually for a minimum of one year starting with the Annual General Meeting, the second Monday of May and ending the following April, however many of our Executive members have been committed to 5 years or more. We also welcome volunteers to help out as Membership Chairperson, Social Convener and Phone and/or Email Contact Person.

Visitors are always welcome.
